Bayway is upgrading our onboard fare boxes and transitioning to a more modern, flexible fare system designed to make riding easier and faster for everyone.
These changes will begin March 4, 2026.
What’s Changing?
- Passes will no longer be sold onboard buses.
- Riders can purchase fares and passes using the Token Transit App or by obtaining a Bayway Smartcard at our office.
- Cash will still be accepted onboard for riders without access to the app.
- A two-day transition period will occur during the system change, during which passes will not be available for purchase.
- Riders should purchase passes before this period begins.
- Existing 31-day monthly passes will continue to be accepted if the expiration date can be manually verified.
- Purchases made through the Token Transit App will not be affected during the transition.
- Tap-to-pay will be available onboard starting April 15, 2026.
